Jaguar Land Rover Sold Half a Million Cars in the Past Year

For the first time ever in the past year, Jaguar Land Rover sold half a million of its cars, thanks to a healthy demand in North America and Europe. But the company’s pre-tax profit took a down-slide due to consumers choosing cheaper models.

To the end of March, JLR closed the deal on 521,571 cars, which is a 13% increase compared to the previous 12-month period. The popularity of new models such as the Jaguar XE helped the boost, which resulted to a £342m rise in revenues to £22.2bn.

The drop in pre-tax profits was the result of the explosion in the Chinese port of Tianjin, which incurred costs and forced JLR to write off close to 6,000 vehicles. Spending costs in new projects and lower first-half sales in China also contributed to the profit loss.

The company has plans to expand its production capacity and invest around £3.75bn for the development and manufacturing of models such as the Range Rover Evoque Convertible and Jaguar F-Pace.
