Jaguar Land Rover Gets Exclusive Deal to Buy Silverstone
After a vote by the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), Jaguar Land Rover was granted exclusive negotiations in its bid to buy the circuit. The deal was given by Silverstone owners.
The vote was decided at the April 7 meeting of the BRDC. The deal is rumoured to be worth around GBP 33 million. The deal specifies that BRDC will still own the company which runs the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The company will also shoulder the costs for hosting the event.
Ginetta owner Lawrence Tomlinson gave a second offer for Silverstone, but he has to wait until July to make his pitch due to the exclusive negotiation rights for Jaguar Land Rover.
The track is the current host to F1, MotoGP, WEC, BTCC, BSB, British GT, Blancpain GT and other motorsport series. The first British Grand Prix in Silverstone took place in 1950.
